GPCH, in recognition of patient need, created a clinic inside the hospital near the emergency room, as an alternative to the emergency room. Our Affordable Care Clinic (ACC) offers extended hours for patients who work and have a non-emergent condition. Emergent conditions are defined by State and Federal regulations to be life threatening at that moment and time. As humans, we often think our condition is an emergency because it is our situation and it is what is most important to us. We recognize that at GPCH and will do our best to accommodate your needs, but still we need to prioritize care based on State and Federal regulations of which we are measured against. We also do not turn away patients for care, but our ACC and Emergency Room are not free services.
When a patient presents for care to the Emergency Room or ACC, we will medically screen you to determine if your condition is life-threatening or emergent (again by the State and Federal guidelines). Once that determination is made and you are considered to be non-emergent, you will be asked for payment arrangements. We have designed a sliding scale for patients who do not have insurance or high deductibles based on income. Patients have the choice to make the arrangements so they can be seen in either the ACC or the Emergency Room. The ACC is priced very similar to a physician’s office, while the Emergency Room is substantially higher.
Emergent patients per EMTALA and hospital policy will be taken to the emergency room for treatment to be further cared for and stabilized without determination of a payment source.
